Limestone Calcined Clay Cement: Research Efforts and Gaps
Presenter: Idris Abdrafiu
Idris is currently a Master’s (Research) student at Stellenbosch University with a focus on low-carbon concrete. He had his first degree from the Federal
University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Nigeria where he graduated top 5% of his class. He served as a Teaching Assistant at the Federal Polytechnic Ede, Nigeria between 2020 and 2021. He also served as a Site Engineer at Baloxx Global Engineering in 2022. His talk will focus on limestone calcined clay cement (LC3) in a South African context.
Fresh and Mechanical Properties of 3D Printable Concrete Utilising Sustainable Alternative Binders
Presenter: Markus Colyn
Markus graduated with a BEng (Civil) degree from the University of Pretoria in 2022 and is currently doing research at Stellenbosch University as a MEng (Research) candidate in the field of 3D printed concrete. His research is centred around minimising the environmental impact associated with 3D printed concrete by exploring various sustainable alternative binders and incorporating recycled waste materials as aggregate. This approach aims to
significantly reduce cement usage in 3D printed concrete while preserving pumpability, extrudability and buildability properties.
