Site Visit (WC) – Steenbras Power Station
3 November @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
The Steenbras Power Station is a 180 MW pumped-storage hydroelectrical power station commissioned in 1979. It acts as an energy storage system, by storing water in the upper reservoir during off-peak hours and releasing that water to generate electricity during peak hours. This power station is reported to be the first pumped-storage hydroelectrical power station to be built on the African continent.
Come and join us for an informative talk on the past and current studies that were undertaken to assess the condition of this amazing concrete structure, with guest speakers Professor Pilate Moyo and Emeritus Professor Mark Alexander of the University of Cape Town, as well as a tour that looks into the site operations.
